After an abortion, most women find that they can return to their normal activities the next day. There may be some bleeding and cramping or a discharge, but that is normal. Be sure to take any medications that have been prescribed. And if you will be taking birth control pills, start them on the Sunday after your procedure.
If You Have Had General Anesthesia:
It is a good idea to rest for 24 hours. Start eating slowly with clear liquids, and don’t drive until the next day.
If You Have Had Local Anesthesia:
You should not drive for 12 hours after your procedure, but you may return to your normal activities the next day.
Call Us IMMEDIATELY If You Have:

During Office Hours:

Having an Abortion Does Not Affect Your Fertility.
You can actually become pregnant again right after an abortion, although we advise you not to have sex for one week after your procedure to help prevent infection. Be sure to take precautions!
We Provide Post-Abortion Counseling.
Each woman reacts differently to having an abortion. We understand that feelings can range from relief to grief, so our counselors are here for you not just before your abortion, but after.
A Two-Week Checkup.
We like to follow up with you after an abortion and a two-week checkup is available if desired. Appointments can be scheduled most Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 to 5, and on Saturdays from 8 to Noon.
As a gentle reminder, and out of respect for all our patients, we ask that you not bring babies or children with you for this appointment. If you have any questions or concerns, you are always welcome to call us at (503) 221-1870.
